1st IS lesson: The internet and WWW and web 2.0

Hi there everybody, this is going to be my first real IS blog posting.

A week ago, I attended Mr Cheong's IS lesson. In this lesson, I learnt a lot about IS. Firstly, I learnt about web 2.0 and web 1.0. Most importantly, I have learnt the difference between them.

I have also found out the key difference between web 2.0 and web 1.0. In web 1.0, there is the webmaster. The webmaster is constantly burnt with the responsibility of posting new and current information on the net, so as to allow the readers to gain access to it.

In web 2.0, the webmaster shares the responsibility of keeping the information on the website current and engaging with the web audiences. The web has now transformed into a place where people simply store information ,to a place where people interact and gather to give information.

Mr Cheong also let us watch a video on youtube. The video is called "Did you know 4.0?" I found this video very good as it was very nice and informative. It gave me facts that I never knew! Did you know more videos were uploaded to YouTube in the last 2 moths than ABC, NBC and CBS (broadcasting stations) had been airing new content since 1948.

I have also learnt something that makes me proud of Singapore. A Singaporean man-Ang Chuang Yang, typed a Guinness Book of world records-approved 160-character text on his cell phone in 41.52 seconds! I sure am impressed!

If you would like to know more, please go to Mr Cheong's blog at http://is-wnm.ning.com/.

IT experience

I can still remember not very clearly the first time I touched a computer. I think it was in primary one, when I was still in Henry Park Primary School.

The teacher-Mdm Wong was trying to teach us something(which I cannot remember now) and it seemed like quite an important project. Then, she requested for us to bring a thumb drive. So, I ended up buying a 1 gb thumb drive which I am still using today.

Around primary 5 or 6, I started using the social networking site- Facebook. At that point of time, many of my friends were already using that, so I did come a bit late.

Towards the end of primary 6, the school started a course for us to learn basic programming skills. We used the application- klik and play, to create games. It went quite well for me and I learnt how to use the software.

After the klik and play course, there was a course for us to learn about photoshop(I think). Honestly speaking, that did not go very well and I did not learn much from it.

This year, I hope to learn a lot from the IS lessons and hope to upgrade myself.
