4th lesson

Hi there everyone! Today, I am going to say about my reflections on the fourth IS lesson with Mr Cheong.

After the wonderful lesson, I have learnt many things about CSS. At first, I did not know anything about CSS as I had completely no prior knowledge.

This lesson was very useful as it help us know much more things about CSS and HTML. At first, I thought that the themes of webpages were designed very simply with some simple codes.

But after looking at the examples that Mr Cheong had made, I realised that actually creating a webpage is not that easy. Kudos to all the blog skins designers!

There are many parts to css therefore a long time to learn is needed to learn all that.

Some examples are the color codes, it is so complicated!!! Therefore I conclude that css is a very complicated but magnificent thing, as it allows people to change colours of their websites and that it is extremely difficult to learn! :)

3rd IS lesson

We attended our 3rd IS lesson a few days ago and there was much to learn in that lesson.

We started off with Mr Cheong presenting to us the slides about HTML. There was 7 slides and the slides were about the basics of how to program HTML.

I learnt a lot about HTML through this one hour. Honestly, I was a little confused after hearing Mr Cheong's presentation on HTML. I was sort of confused with how to bold words and underline words etc. However, I was quite clear with the back bone of HTML.

After the presentation, I teamed up with Aloysius to do the HTML challenge. I was lucky because Aloysius knew how to use HTML even before Mr Cheong started teaching us about it. Therefore, Aloysius thought me the things I did not know and clarified many points with me.

After about half an hour, Aloysius and I were done with the challenge and we were one of the fastest to be done :)

However, I did not slack just because I had a good partner. After I went home, I tried out the HTML challenge for myself and after much practicing, I finally perfected the skill of using HTML.

I felt that this was one of the more interesting lessons and I hope more of such interesting lesson could come my way.

2nd IS lesson

<-two photos of H.C.I
Hi all. Today, I am here to talk about the second IS lesson. Mr Kent Cheong told us to post discussions on the forum on his website as a task for the 2nd lesson.

The discussions were on the difference between a blog and a website. I found the discussions quite meaningful as everybody posted very meaningful discussions.

I also found the videos posted on the website very good as the speaker, Lisa, was a fluent and good speaker who was able to convey what she was trying to say very well.

Also, I found the videos on the other discussions, like the video in the "Social Impact of New Media Technologies" very interesting. The video was on H.C.I which stands for Human Computer Interaction. The video was very vivid and interesting and it led me to imagine how it would be like in the future. It would be great if I could be able to use such technology in the future!

Many people posted comments on the forums and I hope I would get to participate in such interesting forums again

1st IS lesson: The internet and WWW and web 2.0

Hi there everybody, this is going to be my first real IS blog posting.

A week ago, I attended Mr Cheong's IS lesson. In this lesson, I learnt a lot about IS. Firstly, I learnt about web 2.0 and web 1.0. Most importantly, I have learnt the difference between them.

I have also found out the key difference between web 2.0 and web 1.0. In web 1.0, there is the webmaster. The webmaster is constantly burnt with the responsibility of posting new and current information on the net, so as to allow the readers to gain access to it.

In web 2.0, the webmaster shares the responsibility of keeping the information on the website current and engaging with the web audiences. The web has now transformed into a place where people simply store information ,to a place where people interact and gather to give information.

Mr Cheong also let us watch a video on youtube. The video is called "Did you know 4.0?" I found this video very good as it was very nice and informative. It gave me facts that I never knew! Did you know more videos were uploaded to YouTube in the last 2 moths than ABC, NBC and CBS (broadcasting stations) had been airing new content since 1948.

I have also learnt something that makes me proud of Singapore. A Singaporean man-Ang Chuang Yang, typed a Guinness Book of world records-approved 160-character text on his cell phone in 41.52 seconds! I sure am impressed!

If you would like to know more, please go to Mr Cheong's blog at http://is-wnm.ning.com/.

IT experience

I can still remember not very clearly the first time I touched a computer. I think it was in primary one, when I was still in Henry Park Primary School.

The teacher-Mdm Wong was trying to teach us something(which I cannot remember now) and it seemed like quite an important project. Then, she requested for us to bring a thumb drive. So, I ended up buying a 1 gb thumb drive which I am still using today.

Around primary 5 or 6, I started using the social networking site- Facebook. At that point of time, many of my friends were already using that, so I did come a bit late.

Towards the end of primary 6, the school started a course for us to learn basic programming skills. We used the application- klik and play, to create games. It went quite well for me and I learnt how to use the software.

After the klik and play course, there was a course for us to learn about photoshop(I think). Honestly speaking, that did not go very well and I did not learn much from it.

This year, I hope to learn a lot from the IS lessons and hope to upgrade myself.
